Senzing Acquires Placekey Service and Technology

Placekey™ Service and Technology, a free community-supported open standard, is now being backed by Senzing, the leader in entity resolution.

Senzing is thrilled to announce its acquisition of Placekey – the open universal identifier for places data. This acquisition aligns with the Senzing mission to make data interoperable, better connected, and more valuable for organizations around the world.

“We’ve long admired Placekey’s elegant approach to location identity,” said Jeff Jonas, founder and CEO of Senzing. “We’re obsessed with helping the world better connect data. Better connected data drives better decisions. Placekey is a natural companion to our commercial entity resolution technology.”

By providing a consistent, open method to identify any physical location, Placekey has empowered thousands of businesses, researchers, and developers to unlock insights that were previously difficult or impossible to access. Users of Placekey will also find that this standard will help to advance and derisk their AI and agentic initiatives.

What’s Next for Placekey – and What Stays the Same

Placekey will continue operating as a free, open standard. Over the coming months, its services and operations will be fully transitioned to Senzing. Following that, the Senzing® entity resolution engineering team will be driving investment and innovation into Placekey.

  • Placekey will continue operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Senzing, maintaining its identity and independence
  • Placekey will remain free and universally accessible
  • Existing integrations and use cases remain fully supported
  • Senzing will accelerate Placekey’s roadmap
  • Community input, transparency, and collaboration stay core to the mission

What This Means for the Community

Placekey users can expect continuity, plus an innovation boost.

“When it came time to think about Placekey’s future, I trusted Jeff Jonas and Senzing to advance the vision,” said Auren Hoffman, founder of Placekey.“Senzing deeply understands the power of open standards, and I can’t wait to see what this next chapter unlocks for the community.”

From a technical integration perspective, longtime Placekey contributor and SafeGraph CEO Jason Richman underscored the fit: “SafeGraph has been a close partner to Placekey since day 1 and we’re super excited that the Senzing team is taking over. Senzing’s unmatched experience in entity resolution makes them the perfect acquirer for the Placekey API business. We’re excited to see Placekey grow under a team that deeply understands its mission and technical foundation.”
